LOCATION: The village of Iasna Poliana is situated in Southeastern Bulgaria and it is part of Primorsko Municipality, Bourgas District. Primorsko Municipality occupies the southeastern part of the Bulgarian Black Sea coast (Bourgas district). The village is located at the foot of the Strandja Mountains along the River Devil. At the northern end of the village goes Ropotamo River. It is surrounded by ancient forests, called by the local people longuzi. In the 1970s near the village was built the second largest dam in Bourgas - Dam "Yasna Polyana", which provides drinking water to the southern coast. The old name of the village was Alan Kayryak, meaning a place in the sun. The old name of the village was Alan Kayryak, meaning a place in the sun. The current name is given from the writer Lev Tolstoy. In the early 20th century, a group of young intellectuals from all over Bulgaria create a colony of Tolstoyist in the village, which maintains correspondence with Lev Nikolayevich Tolstoy. The commune was heavily entered in the village life and so it was named of the birthplace of the writer Yasna Polyana. The village has a museum, part of which is dedicated to Leo Tolstoy and his followers - tolstoyists. A nice surprise is the other part - ethnography and historical - old wooden plows, looms and huge jugs. One km away from the village, in the shadow of ancient forests is situated a spring with a chapel "St. St. Konstantin and Elena". It is said that the water of the chapel is healing. On major Christian holidays, particularly Easter, the entire population of the village met to the holy spring, light candles in the chapel, "fight" eggs, eat bread, and pour some mineral water. In the village is annually held international symposium on sculpture, carving and struggles. At the annual fair on the feast of St. Constantine and Elena meet earthlings and held lavish celebrations with rich folklore program. Regular meetings are held on the Thracian society. The population professes Orthodox Christianity. The local bit folk group actively participates in all local and national folk song competitions and events. In the summer boils active rural ecotourism, organized groups and individual tourists. Also in the summer theater organizes road shows with international participation. In the last years there are also British who live in the village. Yasna Polyana is one of the few places in Bulgaria where you can taste real homemade Strandja sausage named Dyado. Preparation procedure lasts in average 5 months - from November or December to Easter, when it is cut by the master of the house.
