The village of Zabernovo is situated in south-eastern Bulgaria, in the south part of Burgas region. It is conveniently located 55 km away from the town of Tsarevo and 15 km from the Bulgarian – Turkish Check point at the town of Malko Tarnovo.
At the lands belonging to Zabernovo is located a place called ‘Paroriya’. Here grows a tree that is said to be the oldest and the thickest tree in Strandja Mountain. Near the village is located ‘Zabernovski’ monastery.
The village of Zabernovo belongs to Malko Tarnovo municipality, Burgas region.
The Malko Tarnovo municipality is located in the southern part of Burgas region, at the heart of Strandja Mountain. It is neighbouring to the municipalities of Tsarevo, Sozopol and Sredets. South of the municipality is situated the Republic of Turkey. The area of the Malko Tarnovo municipality extends to 798 005 sq. m., which makes it the third biggest municipality from Burgas region. The population of the municipality is 4831 inhabitants. Most of the inhabitants live in the town of Malko Tarnovo (3010).
The municipality includes the administrative centre – Malko Tarnovo and 12 villages – Gramatikovo, Zvezdets, Vizitsa, Zabernovo, Kalovo, Stoilovo, Slivarovo, Brashlyan, Evrenozovo, Mladejko, Bliznak, Byala voda.
The relief of the municipality is mainly mountainous. The Rivers Veleka, Rezvaya, Mladejka pass through the lands of the municipality, making the region picturesque and attractive with their steep valleys and numerous windings. The highest point in the region is the ‘Gradishteto’ top (710 m high). Strandja Mountain is one of the interesting and ecologically clean havens in Europe. The municipality of Malko Tarnovo is disposed on the territory of ‘Strandja’ reserve. Strandja region is an enchanting place, attractive for its peacefulness and calmness.
The Malko Tarnovo municipality boasts not only of its pure nature but also of its rich common inheritance. The ancient human civilization had left here hundreds of cultural monuments, representing the ancient Strandja Mountain and its inhabitants’ culture.
The town of Malko Tarnovo is a cultural and administrative centre of the municipality. According to a number of scientists at the place of today’s Malko Tarnovo used to be an ancient town. Irrefutable proofs for that fact are a lot of finds from different periods. The name of the town dates back to the Roman epoch, which shows its antiquity, cultural and economic significance during that time.
