ABOUT THE VILLAGE OF VARVARA
The village of Varvara is a part of the Septemvri municipality in the Pazardjik region. The population of the village is 2870 inhabitants. The population is mainly involved in agriculture, services and civil building.
The nature and climate of Varvara combine the advantages of both the mountain and the valley, which makes them very favorable for country tourism.
THE CLIMATE
The climate of Varvara reflects the specifics of both mountain and plain. The winter season is mild and summer is cool. Varvara enjoys a very interesting climatic phenomenon – the White wind. As a herald of cloudless weather this wind starts blowing in the evening – two hours after sunset, and stops in the morning - two hours after sunrise. In summer it brings coolness, in winter it prevents from having frost, and throughout the year it brings fresh mountain air into the village. The availability of thermal mineral springs lends unique exotics to the area – besides the traditional fruit-trees some fruits typical for the south are also grown up here (fig, pomegranate, medlar, etc.).
The humidity and cleanliness of the air, the moderate temperatures, presence and utilization of the thermal springs and all this in the context of variety of nature revealing plenty of breath-taking panoramic views astonishing with their unique beauty enables fast recreation of the human body and “re-charges” life batteries.
THE PLAIN
According to the rules of the ancient civilizations living on agricultural production Varvara is situated in the foot of the mountain for the plain to be used as agricultural land. The territory of the community of Varvara covers a portion of the Southwestern part of the Thracian plain which borders the river Chepinska to the East, the valley of the river Maritsa to the North, and the Rhodope Mountains to the West and South.
THE MOUNTAIN
Varvara has literally nested itself in the foot of the Northern slopes of the Western Rhodope, situated at the altitude of 320 meters.
The village is built on a terraced terrain, which allows sweeping the whole plain in a single glance and at the same time provokes a feeling for entire dipping into the bosom of the mountain.
THE RIVERS AND SPRINGS
Chepinska River is the major hydrological factor in the area of Varvara. It serves as a live border between Varvara and the neighboring village of Vetren dol. The river is used for irrigation of the field. The old name of the river is Eidere (translated from Turkish it means “Fifty rivers”) which in turn speaks about the capacity of the river.
Chepinska River picturesquely winds in the area of Varvara and just a single glance at its fast waters is enough to stamp one's memory with unforgettable pictures. The thermal mineral springs (15 in number) bring in specific color to the whole area. They are situated in the gorge of Chepinska river, 4 km away from the village of Varvara.
In the mid of the 20th century through a drill at a depth of 150 m, a thermal spring was discovered that ranks second in Bulgaria in terms of the hotness of the thermal water – 92 degrees C. It contains mainly sulfur. The other 14 springs have various chemical composition. They have proved to be very good for therapy of bones and joints. Public baths are built to enable the usage of the thermal springs for medical purposes and prophylactics.
